Is there anything better than a weekend away for your birthday?
Last month for my 15th birthday I was lucky enough to spend the weekend in Melbourne with my sister. We had such a good time.
We started with an early morning train trip from Sale into Melbourne. This takes around three hours but we were super excited. The first thing we did when we got to Southern Cross station was get a Boost juice as I was a bit low on my sugar levels. We walked around the city which is so pretty this time of year. We were staying in an amazing Airbnb apartment so we went and checked in. It was a really cute one bedroom and brand new and so central to everything. Right near Melbourne Central station and the Vic markets. The owner was so nice and we felt very safe and comfortable. (If you would like details of this apartment please ask me in the comments – highly recommended).
The other part of my birthday present was going to see Aladdin the musical. We went to the matinee session. My sister thought it would be a good idea to catch the tram there so off we went. But in typical fashion, we seemed to catch the wrong tram and realised after a while that we were going the wrong way! So we jumped off and in a frenzy starting running back to where we were supposed to be. We had no real idea where we were. It was only twenty minutes before the show was starting and we were miles away. Google maps didn’t work! So we rang our parents in Dubai and they helped direct us to where the theatre was. All the time we were running and screaming, block after block! We turned the corner and there was the theatre. We ran in with one minute to spare, make-up running down our face, sweaty clothes – but we made it! At least we got our workout for the day.
Our seats at the show were amazing and we both really enjoyed it. You should try and go and see it if you can. Beautiful costumes and the music made me cry. Highly recommended.
After the show we decided to eat some Thai food. We grabbed some takeaway and went back to the apartment as it was getting dark and we had promised we wouldn’t stay out after dark. We ate in front of the television and talked about how wonderful the show was and how the run was worth it.
The next day we got up early and decided to have breakfast out and grab a coffee. We settled in a starbucks and had some breakfast sandwiches and a cold brew coffee while doing work and errands on our computers early to get them out of the way. After that was all done and dusted we decided to do what we know best… shop. I wanted to get a Pandora ring for my birthday so I bought a pretty silver ring with a pink gem on top. We had sushi for lunch and decided to watch a movie before our bus back to Sale. We went to the cinema in the main mall and watched ‘Snatched’ which was a really good laugh.
We caught the late bus back to Sale, absolutely exhausted. We had an awesome time and thanks so much to my parents who made this all happen. I love feeling responsible and now feel all grown up!
