Well this year has been super busy so far and I haven’t had a chance to keep everyone updated. I have been busy settling into my new school (which has been a combination of scary and amazing) and getting used to being back in Australia (also scary and amazing!). I will write more about that in a later blog.
I’m missing Dubai a lot but luckily had the opportunity to return in March to go to the Dubai Food Festival and present again for Al Islami foods at the Beach Canteen on Kite Beach. I sneakily took a week off school to zip back to Dubai on my Etihad flight. Within a few hours of landing I was back into the kitchen, practising for my demonstrations and meeting up with all my favourite chefs from Scafa (School of Culinary and Finishing Arts). It was so good to see Alisha and Anna again and brush up on my cooking skills before hitting the crowds at Dubai Food Festival.
This year at the festival Al Islami had guest chefs from India – Chef Kirti winner of India’s Masterchef – and Chef Roya from the US as well as celebrity chef, Chef Woods. It was great to be cooking alongside these guys. I was a bit nervous when I first had to get in front of the crowd to demonstrate my healthy cooking ideas using Al Islami products but after a few moments I was fine.
It was great to see all the fans at the festival and be a part of the buzz surrounding such an awesome event.
I think my favourite part of the week was when we had the cooking contests for the kids who had entered online at the Al Islami Kids Club (www.alislamikids.com). There were some amazing young chefs out there and they all had really great ideas on how to cook foods that were healthy and yummy as well. My favourite meal that I tasted from the competition was the beef kebabs from chef Kirti. Just the right amount of crunch and spice and flavoursome goodness!
So after a whirlwind week where I only got to spend a little bit of time with my parents who I miss so much, I was back on the plane and on my way back to Australia and my new reality. Landing back in Melbourne it all seemed like a dream.
I can’t wait to share some of my new recipes that I fine-tuned over the festival. You can get a sneak peek on the Al Islami Kids Club page at
