On January 26th 2017, we Australians celebrate Australia Day! This is the first Australia Day that I have spent in Australia for over ten years, so I was truly excited for the day to come!
The plan for the day was to go to the beach with my cousins, and my aunt and uncle. When we arrived at the beach in the morning there were already so many Australians swimming and setting up barbeques. At the beach, there was a wharf where people could jump off! I was super excited and ready to jump, although I admit I was a bit scared. Once I jumped off the water was definitely colder than I expected since I have lived in Dubai, where the water is never really cold. After doing a few jumps off the wharf, we took a stroll around the beach and collected some shells.
Long strolls around the beach can make you super hungry so we decided to get a bite to eat! We went to the centre of Cronulla where we found a Japanese restaurant. I LOVE sushi so I was super happy to be having some Japanese. I had some Salmon and Avocado rolls and shared Soft Shell Crab Salad with my sister. It was so delicious! After the great meal, we decided to have a little treat, so we stop off and got some frozen yogurt! It was a great way to stop the heat getting to us.
Later, at 9 pm, my sister and I really wanted to go and see the fireworks which were going to be held at Cronulla beach! It was really convenient to be in walking distance so we didn’t need to rush to get there. Upon arriving at the beach, there were people performing on stage. Everyone was having a fantastic time! Before we knew it the fireworks were starting, and I must say they were pretty spectacular. They went on for a good 20 minutes, and then we strolled back to our grandparent’s place.
It was a great day and I had a great time celebrating my country! Hopefully you love celebrating your culture as much as I do!
